iPad Circulation Policy
To promote access to online resources, the Bradley Beach Free Public Library(Library) circulates iPads. At this time, Bradley Beach Free Public Library has 4 iPads for checkout.
Eligibility
An iPad may be checked out by any Bradley Beach Free Public Library cardholder, 18 years or older, with a valid Bradley Beach Free Public Library card in good standing (i.e. card is not expired or blocked due to unpaid fines or fees). All borrowers must sign a User Agreement of this policy and show their Library card at the time of checkout. A User Agreement must be signed each time the device is checked out, regardless of previous device checkouts by a patron. Patrons with juvenile cards are not eligible to checkout iPads. The Library reserves the right to refuse to check the device out to patrons who abuse Library equipment or have a history of returning items late and/or losing/damaging items.
Loan Period & Checkout
Checkouts for iPads are on a first-come, first-served basis. iPads circulate for a 10-day loan period (no renewals). A household is eligible to borrow only one iPad at a time. iPads are only checked out in person at the Bradley Beach Free Public Library circulation desk. iPads may be reserved online just as a book or other library item may be reserved. Each iPad unit circulates in a case with a case, Apple quick start guide, patron instructions, headphones, charging cable, base plug, library instructions, supporting documents, and a copy of this agreement. Under no circumstances should the iPad be removed from its protective case by a borrower. A cardholder may not borrow an iPad for 10-days from the system-generated due date, regardless if the borrower brings back an iPad before it is due. If a reservation is made by the same borrower before the 10-day window has passed, the staff reserves the right to cancel the reservation. Should this occur the patron will receive an email notification.
At the time of checkout, a staff member will verify all iPad components (case, Apple quick start guide, patron instructions, headphones, charging cable, base plug, library instructions, supporting documents, and a copy of this agreement).
Returns
Overdue iPads will be charged $10.00 fee per day. Overdue fees will be capped at $570. If the iPad is not returned two weeks after the due date, the device will be assumed lost and the patron will be billed for the lost device and components at market value for a replacement. Patrons are responsible for paying the cost to replace the lost device and components. iPads are fragile and must, therefore, be returned at the circulation desk and not in the book drops. Patrons returning iPads to the book drop will be charged the cost of any damages to the device plus $5.00 for violation of the User’s Agreement. When returning the iPad, please wait for a staff member to check through all components, while you are present to be sure everything is returned otherwise, you may incur damage, lost, and/or late fees.
Lost or Damaged iPad
The borrower is responsible for damage, loss, or theft to the iPad and all of its components. The charge for a lost or damaged iPad is $570, which is the current market value for the device and the case. A lost or damaged charging cable, bag, headphones, or base plug will result in a fee equal to the market value of the component(s). The Bradley Beach Free Public Library reserves the right to refuse service to patrons who abuse equipment or are repeatedly late in returning Library materials. Three (3) late returns for any device checked-out will result in being permanently banned from borrowing all electronic devices from the Library. If any technical problems arise, patrons should return the device immediately to the Bradley Beach Free Public Library and inform Library staff of the issue.
Proper Care and Use:
- The iPad will work wherever there is a Wi-Fi connection or hotspot.
- Tampering, adjusting, attempting to repair, or altering the iPad in anyway is prohibited and will result in the suspension of device borrowing privileges.
- Do not adjust, attempt to repair, or alter the iPad in any way. Doing so will result in the suspension of device borrowing privileges.
- Once the device is fully charged, unplug it and let the battery run down before charging again. Do not leave the iPad plugged in after it is fully charged.

- The Library cannot guarantee Wi-Fi or hotspot connection speeds. These are dependent on the point of access.
- Do not leave the device unattended. Patrons are responsible for any damage or theft while the iPad is checked out to their account.
- Patrons are not to purchase replacement parts for any lost or damaged components–the Library is responsible for procuring replacement components.
